What is TPO?

TPO, or Thermoplastic Polyolefin is a single-ply reflective roofing membrane made from polyprophylene and ethylene-propylene rubber polymerized together. It is typically installed in a fully adhered or mechanically attached system, allowing the white membrane to remain exposed throughout the life of the roof.

Cooling Degree Days

TPO membranes reflect UV radiation keeping the surface of the roof and the building cool during summer months, helping to reduce cooling costs, and decrease the amount of carbon emissions.

Benefits of UltraPly™ TPO

  • Durability, Flexibility and Versatility: UltraPly TPO is highly resistant to tears, impacts, and punctures yet remains flexible to allow for building movement
  • Economical and Easy to Install: UltraPly TPO’s flexibility allows for a rapid installation and requires little maintenance throughout its life. TPO membranes are commonly fully adhered or mechanically attached to the underlying insulation or cover board.
  • Cool Roofing Matters: A light coloured roof that reflects the sun’s energy can play a significant role in reducing the buildings cooling costs.
  • Welded Seams for Long-Lasting Performance: TPO membranes are heat-welded at 926ºC with a hot-air gun. The result is a fused seam that’s stronger than the field of the membrane.
  • Sustainable and Environmentally Friendly: TPO membranes contain no toxic or hazardous ingredients and are fully recyclable.

Installation of TPO Roofing

TPO roofing can be installed using mechanical attachment, adhesion, ballasting, or plate bonding techniques. For the best installation method, it’s recommended to consult with a TPO roofing contractor. At AZ Roofing, we have experienced TPO roofing specialists who can help determine the best installation approach for your project using an induction welder to join plates to the membrane. My journey with Darwin from AZRoofing started in early July of 2023. I have had a stubborn leak that had ruined part of the 2nd floor master bedroom ceiling. It was a small leak that was difficult to trace. If the rains were very heavy and wind driven, my ceiling would actually drip. But if it was moderate/light…no dripping but my moisture meter would register a high level of humidity. I believe the leak was caused by another roofing contractor. It took Darwin 3 visits to find and fix the leak. He is very professional in his manner and really takes pride in his work. I remember him saying “I got to make this right” after finding out I still have the leak after his first attempt at fixing it. It took until October to finally fix the leak. I would have preferred it to have been sooner but I understand that my job was a “small” job compared to replacing the entire roof and since the ceiling was already damaged and water was not pouring in…I waited. I have had other contractors wanting to sell me a new roof instead of finding the leak. If Darwin’s work ethic is representative of the employees at AZRoofing…you’re in good hands.

We needed a roof repair and I reached out to various roofing company for a quote. A few of the companies did not bother to respond and a few did. We decided to go with AZ Roofing for the roof repair for many reasons. Darwin was professional, on time, knowledgable, did not oversell and his quote was very reasonable. Dealing with Darwin was a great experience and he did a super job fixing the damage, provided pictures and explained in detail all the repair work. I would highly recommend AZ Roofing and would use their services again for any future roof needs.
